Some common questions about Children's Centres.
Children's centres are for anyone who cares for children under 5 years old. Each area in Oxfordshire has its own centre, and to find your local one, look on the map on the home page of this site. Sometimes there are activities in the school holidays for older siblings of under-5s as well.
2. Do the centres offer childcare?
Some centres have childcare facilities. Contact your local centre to check.
3. I need a good childminder in my area. Can my local children's centre help me?
Yes, your local centre will have information on childminders in the area. Or you can contact the Oxfordshire Family Information Service (OFIS) on 08452 26 26 36.
4. Can I just turn up, or do I have to book for activities and events at the children's centre?
You can just turn up, but some activities need booking beforehand. It is always best to contact the centre before you go just to be sure.
5. I have heard that parents can get involved in the running of children's centres. Is this correct?
Yes, all the centres have volunteers who help out, and there are groups of parents and carers who help the centre provide the best facilities for the area.
6. I am new to the area. Is a children's centre a good place to find out about local facilities for children or should I go elsewhere?
Your local children's centre is the best place to start when you are new to an area. There is advice, support, fun activities and friends to be made there as well as information about your area.
